gambas
I read an article on gambas, a visual basic like development platform for linux, and decided to try it. I am running simply mepis on a toshiba laptop. I uaed apt to install gambas and everything worked right out of the box.
Bambas looks very impressive and is worth trying. Basic is not as powerfull or as easy as Perl, Python, etc. and normally I would not touch it in Linux, but I have read several very favorable reviews and thus have installed it. It does look like a good way to make gui aplications for kde and if this proves true, then in that niche space, it has an advantage over traditional linux based languages such as Perl, Ruby, or Python.
